Here are some tips for when you are cooking in your home this holiday season to prevent home fires and injuries
1. Avoid wearing loose clothing (or sleeves that dangle) when cooking
2. Never leave any food over an open or exposed flame/hot surface unattended
3. Use a timer to remember when stove and oven are on
4. Place flammable items like pot holders, oven mitts and wooden utensils, away from any appliances that generate heat
5. Clean cooking surfaces often, prevent grease buildup
6. Have, and know how to use, a fire extinguisher in your kitchen
7. Double check that all appliances are turned off before leaving home or going to bed
8. Keep children and pets away from cooking area
9. Do not store any item(s) inside of stove, even when not in use
10. Test smoke detectors frequently, and changes batteries often
